Human growth hormone has many benefits, mostly reported by the users, rather than physical data. For years, scientists have said growth hormone doesn’t work the way bodybuilders want it to, but has been used in bodybuilding for years, and will be used for years to come.

There are many reasons why baseball players use human growth hormone. HGH is known as the fountain of youth(there’s a reason why guys in Major League Baseball are playing into their 40s), and actually has similar benefits to testosterone.

Human Growth Hormone:

Increases energy

Increases libido (sex drive)

Improves skin complexion

Reverses signs of aging

Improves memory

Improves vision (and hand eye co-ordination *hint* ball to bat)

Burns fat

Builds muscle (No where close to steroids)

Improves recovery and healing

Take your pick, sounds pretty impressive doesn’t it? The above list is why doctors today are prescribing growth hormone more than ever. It is no longer ‘steroids are evil’, testosterone and growth hormone are being accepted more and more. I believe in the next five years over half of all males will be on a testosterone or HGH program once they hit their 40s… and probably even sooner if it wasn’t so expensive, hence the plain, old, wealthy men comment earlier.

If that’s not enough, at this time, human growth hormone is undetectable in a urine test. I emphasize urine, because there is now a blood test that can detect HGH… and they already caught their first athlete! However, at this time, the MLB Players Association does not allow blood tests, so Bud Selig and the MLB front office are investing millions trying to discover a HGH test for urine samples.

“We’re spending many millions on a test for human growth hormone.” said Selig. “We’ve come a lot farther in the last five years than anybody possibly could have dreamed.”

What I’d like to know is how is this test coming along so fast, when the Olympics have been searching for a growth hormone test for decades? Either way, HGH testing in MLB will be at least a few years away. However, Minor Leaguers, look out, the blood testing will now be used in the Minors, as they are not a part of the MLBPA.

Deca Durabolin was one of the most popular steroids used in baseball throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. Keyword ‘was’, because it is more than likely the steroid which is most avoided today.

Deca Durabolin is not only a great strength builder, but was popular for a variety of reasons.

First, Deca Durabolin is manufactured for the pharmaceutical company Organon. The actual steroid is nandrolone decanoate. Deca Durabolin is one of the most popular steroids used in bodybuilding, especially in off season ‘bulk steroid cycles‘. It provides slow and steady gains in both muscle mass and strength.

Deca Durabolin

A typical dosage of Deca Durabolin is 400mgs per week. A Deca Durabolin cycle would usually also include a testosterone steroid, such as, testosterone enanthate or testosterone cypionate, due to Deca Durabolin shutting down the natural hormone production in the body. In fact, Deca is one of the most known steroids for shutting the body’s HPTA, ie loss of sex drive! Low sex drive, symptoms of depression and lack of energy are reasons why steroid users will often include testosterone with Deca Durabolin.

What makes Deca so popular with baseball players is the fact it helps with injuries and joint pain. Steroids in general help with injuries and muscle fatigue recovery, but Deca Durabolin helps with nagging injuries, most often in the shoulders and rotator cuff issues. This is what made Deca a favorite with baseball players, and especially pitchers. Many people will say nandrolone decanoate ‘oils the joints and removes the pain’. But what Deca does is increase collagen synthesis and bone mineral content, thus minimizing joint pain. Whether a pitcher had arm fatigue, or a long term injury in the shoulder, Deca Durabolin would eliminate pain and speed up recovery. However, nandrolone is not exactly the perfect steroid.

Deca Durabolin Side Effects

There are two main negative aspects of Deca that kept athletes away, one even more so today. First, Deca Duraoblin causes water retention… which means water weight. For pitchers, this is okay, as their speed is not important, but for someone in the outfield running for the ball, or a player on base, base running, the less weight the better, especially if it’s not muscle.

The most important reason why Deca isn’t used anymore? It stays active in the body for up to 18 months. Meaning any steroid test within 18 months after the last injection, could cause a positive steroid test. With Major League Baseball (MLB) trying to put an end to anabolic steroid use, this drug definitely wants to be avoided.

With Deca not the ideal steroid anymore, pitchers and athletes need to find other ways to speed up recovery and minimizes aches and pains during the season.

Steroids have been in baseball for decades. Those in the bodybuilding and steroid communities new this, but most of the general public did not. When the Mitchell Report was released, most of the baseball world was in shock.

The top players in the NFL use steroids, the top players in the MLB use steroids, Olympians use steroids, but for some reason people were shock at how wide spread steroid use was in baseball. It is no different than bodybuilding, and people wondering about Ronnie Coleman’s steroid use. People will do whatever they can, to get an edge, and whatever they can get away with. Players read signs, doctor baseballs… take steroids.

What amazes me was all the ‘purists’ out there who were so rattled about the whole situation, and many claimed they would never watch baseball again. Really? I wonder how many have actually stopped watching baseball. These purists didn’t seem to mind watching the homerun race between Sosa and Bonds, but once they found out Bonds was using steroids, Bonds was the most hated player in baseball.

The truth is, home runs and big hits are the most exciting part of baseball for most viewers. It is impossible, but if you removed steroids from the game, we’d all watching the home run leaders struggling to hit 30 home runs a season, and seeing a home run in a game would be rare. Is that exciting?

Atleast Albert Pujols doesn’t use steroids, he’s a real role model… I’d love to see the reactions if and when they find out he’s not as natural as people think. Let’s look at professional bodybuilding. It’s safe to assume all pros are using steroids. What are the chances the top professional bodybuilder, say Jay Cutler, is natural, in a sport where all the top athletes are using steroids? Not very likely. When the games top stars were caught using steroids, Alex Rodriguez, Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi, Jose Canseco, Roger Clemens, David Ortiz, what are the chances one of the biggest names, Albert Pujols is completely natural? I’ll let you decide.

Even if Pujols did get caught, I’m sure it was some ‘cough medicine’ he was on, or legal supplement that was given to him by someone in the Dominican Republic.

The truth is, steroids are a part of baseball, they are a part of every sport, even golf, tennis, you name it, it’s there, and it will always be there. Steroid use in sports is similar to those burning movies illegally, they are always one step ahead of those trying to stop it. The funny thing is, the whole point of the Mitchell report was stop steroid use, and to clean it up for the future of baseball. What it really did, was increase steroid interest all over the world. Young kids hearing about their favorite baseball player used steroids to get where they did, what do you think these kids think? They figure they’ll need to use steroids to become a professional athlete too. I will guarantee there are more kids than ever searching for anabolic steroids, all because of the media, and trying to stop steroid use.
